# DUNE 3 vs. Hyperwave

DUNE 3 can generate a complete evolving table from an equation. Hyperwave builds the sequence from connected sources, controls and processors with inspectable intermediate results.

Express an evolving table as a function of sample and table position, or build harmonic source states and generate transitions inside DUNE.

Platform: Desktop synth for Windows and macOS. Price: €199 full license.

One-time purchase of the full synth, including the editor and formula generator. A trial is offered. Confirm VAT and the final regional total at checkout; tax inclusion was not settled by the inspected pages.

Price checked 2026-10-26: https://www.synapse-audio.com/dune3.html

Native WT files and WAV wavetable import/export; generated table data is retained in patches.

Generation UX: 6/10. Generation power: 8/10. Five means competent average.

## workflow

Define a rule over sample/table coordinates and generate, or author source states and morph between them.

## evolution

The y coordinate permits nonlinear whole-table relationships. Different terms can evolve according to different expressions.

## composition

Combine and nest analytic source expressions. Access to existing sample buffers as named formula inputs is not established.

## spectral

Explicit sinusoidal terms can define amplitude, phase and placement relationships for generated components; arbitrary incoming-bin programs are unverified.

## iteration

Nested expressions and successive table processing provide manual equivalents. A seed/previous-result/pass controller is not established.

## revision

Locally change the expression and regenerate. Saving the table does not establish preservation of the original rule and every later operation.

## inspection

Source frames and oscillator scanning are demonstrated. Formula diagnostics and isolation of subexpressions need stronger interaction evidence.

Power is grounded in the current 3.6 manual. Formula UX is provisional: the inspected demonstrations show manual states rather than formula authoring/debugging.

## Strengths

- An equation can generate the entire sequence using x for the cycle and y for table position.
- Arithmetic, trigonometry and nonlinear functions can compose sources and define evolving partial relationships.
- Manual amplitude/phase states and table morphing provide a complementary route when the desired geometry is easier to draw.

## Limitations

- Existing imported-buffer inputs, a harmonic iterator and arbitrary stateful recurrence were not established in the formula engine.
- Formula error handling, preview behaviour and recall of the original expression were not demonstrated in the inspected videos.
- Full synth purchase; retained final table data does not establish a saved, replayable chain of all generating operations.

You already use DUNE, or its full instrument fits your work and you want compact mathematical rules for whole-table evolution.

You want visible processing dependencies, intermediate inspection and controls for spectral remapping or repeated passes without expanding an expression.
