# Icarus 3 vs. Hyperwave

Icarus generates tables through resynthesis, source sweeps and repeated rendering. Hyperwave constructs and retains the dependencies that generate the sequence.

Generate source-based sweeps, resynthesize recordings and apply spectral or morph transformations successively to the resulting table data.

Platform: Desktop synth for Windows and macOS. Price: €149 / US$169 advertised.

Full synth including table generation. The vendor shows a US$199 crossed-out reference price. Upgrade offers are separate; no sale expiry or tax-inclusive total was established.

Wavetable import/export and native patch tables; Apply Morph and Sweep replace table data with generated results.

Generation UX: 6/10. Generation power: 6/10. Five means competent average.

## workflow

Choose a source or recording, generate a sweep, inspect the table and optionally render another transformation into it.

## evolution

Sweep generates a selected transform from its 0–100 range. Freely authored independent interior paths are not established.

## composition

Mix/stack selected material and apply further baked transformations. Arbitrary retained branch topology is unverified.

## spectral

Partial/phase editing and named transforms provide substantial bounded control; a general harmonic rule language is unverified.

## iteration

Render a transformation, then process that result again. Pass-state-controlled recurrence is not established.

## revision

Undo restores earlier data. Changing an upstream operation after several bakes can require reconstructing later work.

## inspection

Separate selected-wave and whole-table audition help inspect both scopes. Users must distinguish live Morph from written table data.

Current manual confirms bake semantics; detailed workflows include older demonstrations. No universal audio-quality claim is made for resynthesis.

## Strengths

- A selected waveform and a Sweep command can generate a full evolving sequence with little frame construction.
- Resynthesis and harmonic/phase operations provide several meaningful routes from source material to new tables.
- Selected-wave and whole-table audition scopes help distinguish local waveform character from sequence evolution.

## Limitations

- Apply Morph and Sweep replace the old table and reset live morph mode; earlier processing is not kept as an independently editable stage.
- Freely authored multivariate trajectories, generic per-bin programs and automatic dependency replay were not established.
- The generator is included in a paid full synth; live oscillator/FX capabilities require an established bake path before counting as table content.

You want quick resynthesis and named transformation sweeps inside Icarus, and manual successive rendering fits your workflow.

You need explicit control relationships and want to change upstream spectral or branch-processing choices after building a compound result.
