PPG Wave
The PPG Wave is the synthesizer line that introduced commercial wavetable synthesis, built by Wolfgang Palm's Palm Products GmbH from 1981 to 1987.
The 1978 Wavecomputer 360 already scanned 30 wavetables of 64 waves each but sounded thin with no filters; the Wave series fixed that by pairing the digital wavetable engine with analog filters and amplifiers. Its scheme — ordered single-cycle waves, position scanning, interpolation between neighbors — is still the blueprint every wavetable instrument follows.
